Kathryn Bailey "Kate" Beckinsale[1] (born 26 July 1973) is an English actress. Her best known films include Pearl Harbor (2001), Underworld (2003), Van Helsing (2004), and Click (2006).
Early life
Born in Finsbury Park, London,[2] Beckinsale is the daughter of actor Richard Beckinsale, who died from a heart attack in 1979, and actress Judy Loe. She has a paternal half-sister, Samantha, who is also an actress. Her paternal great-grandfather was Burmese, and she has said that she was "very oriental-looking" as a child.[3]
Beckinsale attended the Godolphin and Latymer School, an all-girls independent school inLondon.[4] In her teens, Beckinsale twice won the W. H. Smith Young Writers' competition—once for three short stories and once for three poems.[5] After a rebellious adolescence, including a period of anorexia and starting a smoking habit, she followed in the footsteps of her parents and began her acting career. Her first role was inOne Against the Wind, a television film about World War II that was first aired in 1991. Having gained three language A levels, Beckinsale studied French and Russian literature at New College, Oxford University, though she did not finish her degree.[5] She thought that having an academic background studying foreign language and literature would broaden her range of acting roles.
Career
During her first year at Oxford, Beckinsale was offered a part in Kenneth Branagh's big-screen film, Much Ado About Nothing, adapted from theShakespeare play. She spent her last year of studies in Paris, after which she decided to leave the university and concentrate on her acting career.[5] In 1994, Beckinsale had a supporting role in Prince of Jutland, working alongside Christian Bale, with whom she would later reunite in the 2002 drama Laurel Canyon. Kate starred in Haunted (1995) with Aidan Quinn and John Gielgud and in the 1996 TV film adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma. She subsequently appeared in a few low-profile films, including Shooting Fish and The Last Days of Disco, both in 1998. During this time, Beckinsale also appeared in television films and in stage roles, including the well-received Cold Comfort Farm, opposite British film and television notables Ian McKellen, Rufus Sewell, Eileen Atkins, Joanna Lumley and Stephen Fry.
Beckinsale's first major American film, Brokedown Palace (1999), was not a commercial success. Soon after, Beckinsale was cast in the 2001 film Pearl Harbor as the female lead, after Charlize Theron turned down the part. The film was one of the highest-grossing films of its year. In the years following, she appeared in a series of American films that, while high-profile, were given a somewhat mixed reviews, including Serendipity (2001), Underworld (2003) and Van Helsing (2004). In 2005, she portrayed Ava Gardnerin Martin Scorsese's The Aviator, a role for which she gained 20 pounds.
In 2006, Beckinsale was placed at #23 in FHM's "100 Sexiest Women in the World", after being #71 in 2005. She has also been placed at #16 in Maxim's "HOT 100" (2003), #63 in Stuff's "100 Sexiest Women in the World" (2002), and was chosen by the English magazine Hello! as "England’s #1 Beauty", also in 2002.
In January 2006, Beckinsale reprised her role as a vampire in the movie Underworld: Evolution, a sequel to her 2003 film, Underworld, again directed by her husband, Len Wiseman. The film opened in the #1 spot at the box office, grossing over $26 million in its first weekend of release.[6] Also in 2006, Beckinsale appeared in the comedy Click, starring Adam Sandler, which opened on 23 June. Next, Beckinsale replaced Sarah Jessica Parker[7] in the film Vacancy, released in 2007. Her next role was in Snow Angels, which was released in 2008.
At Comic-Con 2007, Beckinsale expressed interest in playing Catwoman in the current Christopher Nolan-directed Batman films. In April 2007, during an interview promoting Vacancy, Beckinsale claimed no knowledge of the rumors linking her to a remake of Barbarella. "I was told on the set yesterday, someone said, 'Oh I hear you're doing Barbarella,' one of the grips. So that's the most official it's become. Every woman would consider Barbarella for a moment, but I don't know."[8] Beckinsale eventually won a libel lawsuit against the Daily Express concerning the matter.[9]
Beckinsale is signed to Independent Models in London.
As of 2009, Beckinsale's movies have grossed a total of $791,492,436 domestically.[10]
Personal life
Beckinsale and her ex-partner Michael Sheen have a daughter, Lily Mo Sheen (born 31 January 1999). She reported in interviews that during herpregnancy with Lily was the only time she has ever stopped smoking. Her daughter has acted, portraying a young version of her mother in most roles, including Underworld: Evolution and Everybody's Fine. During the Underworld shoot, Beckinsale split from Sheen, who was also starring in the film. She became involved with the director of the film, Len Wiseman.[11] In June 2003, Beckinsale became engaged to Wiseman, and the two were married on 9 May 2004 in Bel-Air, California. Kate has lived in the United States for 7 years and still has no drivers license, she told Ellen DeGeneres on her show.

Rihanna was born February 20, 1988, on the Caribbean island of Barbados, as Robyn Rihanna Fenty. At the age of 15, Rihanna received her big break when one of her friends introduced her to music producer Evan Rogers, who was vacationing in Barbados with his Bajan wife, Jackie. Rogers, along with his partner Carl Sturken, helped Rihanna record material in the U.S that was sent to various recording companies. One copy of Rihanna's work was sent to Jay-Z, who eventually signed her to his record label.
Rihanna's debut album Music of the Sun, which she co-wrote, was released in August 2005, led by the single 'Pon de Replay', which peaked at number two on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.The second single, 'If It's Lovin' That You Want', was less successful than its predecessor. The album itself peaked within the top ten in Canada, and the US, and within the top forty in the UK. It has received platinum certifications in several countries and a Gold certification in the US. To further promote the album, Rihanna toured with Gwen Stefani. The album itself sold almost half a million copies in the US and two million worldwide.
She released her second album, A Girl Like Me, in 2006 less than eight months after the release of her first album. The album debuted at number five in the US and six in the UK. Four singles were released from 'A Girl Like Me', with 'SOS' and 'Unfaithful' having the most success.
After her second album, she released her third album titled 'Good Girl Gone Bad'. The first single off that album 'Umbrella' became an extremely popular hit in the US and UK. The single topped number one in the US and UK. The song stayed number one in the UK for more then 10 weeks becoming the first single in over a decade to do so. Alessandra Corine Ambrósio (born April 11, 1981)[4] is a Brazilian model. Her last name is spelled Ambrósio, but the diacritic mark is omitted in her modeling work.
Ambrósio, described by Tyra Banks as "The future of the modeling world" [5], is best known for her work with Victoria's Secret and was chosen as their first spokesmodel for Victoria's Secret PINKline. Ambrósio is currently one of Victoria's Secret Angels [6] and the former face for the UK company Next. [7]
Aside from modeling work, Ambrósio represents as the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. [8] Ambrosio was also selected by AskMen.com as Number 2 out of the "Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2008".
Early life
Alessandra Ambrosio was born in Erechim, Brazil on April 11, 1981. Her parents, who are of Italianand Polish descent, own a petrol station. [2][5] Ambrósio was just eight years old when she decided that she wanted to be a model, after seeing a picture of top covergirl Karen Mulder in a magazine: "I wanted to be like her", she recalls. She enrolled at a modelling class at the age of 12 and at the age of 14 she was one of 20 finalists for an elite modelling competition in Brazil. [5] Ambrosio was always insecure about her large ears and at eleven had cosmetic surgery to get her ears pinned back, though two years later she suffered complications. [10] In 2006 she appeared on The Tyra Banks Show, and said that the surgery was a bad experience and has discouraged her from ever getting plastic surgery again.

Modeling career
When Ambrosio was 12 years old, she enrolled in modeling classes then, began modeling for Dilson Stein at age 15. [12][5] Winning Brazil's Elite Model Look started her modeling career.[3] Her first big modeling job was the cover of the Brazilian Elle magazine.[1] Elite passed along some of her Polaroids to Guess which led her to do the Millennium GUESS? campaign along with her friend and fellow Brazilian Ana Beatriz Barros.[13] She has since been in huge demand, working with big-name brands including Revlon, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Rolex, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci,Escada, Rocco Barocco, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, as well as the famed Pirelli Calendar.[14][5] As for fashion shows, she has walked the catwalks for designers such as Laura Biagiotti, Christian Lacroix, Byblos, Fendi, Issey Miyake, Kenzo, Christian Dior, Nicole Miller,Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood, Oscar de la Renta, among others.[12][5] She appeared in over 50 international magazine covers such as Cosmopolitan, Elle, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Ocean Drive, Vogue and the only model to appear on the cover of Glamour in the United States in 2006.[3][2]

Her best knowns collaboration is with American lingerie brand Victoria's Secret. She appeared in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for the first time in 2000, and continues to be a participant in the subsequent shows. Personal life
Ambrosio loves surfing, seeing bands, drinking caipirinha and eating chocolates, which she admits to indulging in every day.[citation needed] She is very conscious of her figure and works out with her Brazilian trainer doing the Brazilian Butt Lift, which is a mix of samba, capoeira andaerobics.[25]
When Ambrosio first came to New York, Gisele Bündchen lent her apartment for two weeks and Adriana Lima helped her translate English. [26]
She described her typical week as jetsetting from one country to another for photo shoots and in between she has some phone interviews. She still visits her family in Brazil regularly and calls Erechim, Brazil her favorite place in the world and having traveled the world has not yet convinced her otherwise.[5]
Ambrosio's best friend is fellow Brazilian model Ana Beatriz Barros. [27]
On August 24, 2008, Ambrosio and her fiancé, California businessman Jamie Mazur, had a child, daughter Anja Louise Ambrosio Mazur, [28] inFlorianopolis, Brazil.
